The Albany Challenge 2009

This year’s competition was hosted by last year’s winners Portsdown Camcorder Users Club at the Newell Centre in Chichester on

Sunday 19th April. An audience of close to 100 nearly filled the hall on the bright sunny afternoon. Nine films were entered from six

participating clubs. The standard of the films was good and included films with an element of mystery and also comedy. A documentary

was also entered by Haywards Heath Movie Makers filmed at the Seed Bank at Wakehurst Place. Judging took place following the

showing of the films while the audience partook of the excellent refreshments.

Our Club’s film The Missing Peace won:-

Still from 'The Missing Peace'. This excellent film, evolved from an idea from Barbara Hodson and was directed by Chris Hodson. Cameraman was Chris Kenny, using a Canon XL2 in true widescreen mode, who also edited the film in conjunction with Chris Hodson using Premiere Pro 2.

Actors taking part in this film were recruited from FADS (Ferring Amateur Dramatic Society) and their fine performances gave a true realism to the production which resulted in a special award of a Certificate of Merit to Gill Kirk the leading actress. (She is on the left of our picture on the left.)

Still from 'The Missing Peace'.

The “dubious” pleasure of being overall winners of the competition will mean that South Downs Video and Film Makers will host the 2010 competition.

The Albany Challenge 2008

An unexpected problem struck the 2008 competition: snow.  The unseasonable weather made it difficult for many people to attend. We would love a

report from anyone who was able to get there.  South Downs won The Greenyer Trophy for best use of sound with  Sooner or Later.

The Albany Challenge 2007
